First off – the name. I take no credit for it whatsoever, it links to me being a huge fan of the Chart Music Podcast which is utterly phenomenal.
Al Needham – the most likeable bloke on the planet – and his chums who used to write for the Melody Maker (and many more outlets) “stick their hands right down the back of the sofa of a random episode of Top Of The Pops and have a good rummage about”.
Seriously, check them out at: https://chartmusiccouk.wordpress.com/
If you do (and you should), and you like what they do, then support them by chucking some money down their g-string over at https://patreon.com/chartmusic
If it weren’t for them, I wouldn’t have done this. I grew up on what they wrote, and count Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers) by Simon Price as one of my favourite pieces of writing ever.
Starting with listening to, and rating, The Independent’s “40 albums you must hear before you die”, this blog will be the dumping ground for all sorts of stuff I might write.
Sometimes what I write will be brief and more of a reaction to what I’m hearing, other times I’ll try and use the wee bit of knowledge I have about music theory to go a bit deeper. It’ll be a mixed bag really. I hope you enjoy it, and please tell me what you do and don’t like. I know I am not a professional writer. I’m a nurse. I do, however, love music. All music. So this blog is an outlet for that, and to stop me boring the proverbial t*ts off my wife by rabbiting on about whatever album I’m listening to at that time.
It was either this or a podcast!
